Next Play Reading

The play readings will be on Thursday January 31st  from 7pm at the Playhouse.

Our first play reading of 2019 we will be Act One of 'Pride and Prejudice'. This adaptation of one of the world’s best-known and most-loved novels brings to life the world of late 18th century England, where mothers plot to bring their daughters to the notice of potential suitors, the wealthier and ‘better connected’ the better.

Mrs Bennett has three daughters on her hands: coolly intelligent Elizabeth, beautiful Jane and immature Lydia. For them love is what matters.  Much to Mrs Bennett’s exasperation, her husband tends to side with the girls. Rich young Mr Bingley arrives in the locality with an even richer friend, the snobbish Mr Darcy. Other suitors, some obnoxious and predatory, arrive on the scene as well.  Darcy and Elizabeth soon find they very much dislike each other—or do they?  Beneath a veneer of conventional politeness, this diverse array of characters are soon verbally sparring with another in a drama that mixes romance, sharp wit and loving family life.

There are plenty of parts for both men and women.  Act One works quite well as a self-contained piece but there will be an opportunity to read the rest of the play at a later date.

You do not have to be a member of the Players to come and enjoy reading the plays and join in our social gathering.  Bring your favourite drink plus a small plate to share.  Tea and coffee is provided.  A gold coin donation would be appreciated please.
