Players target Robin Hood for next Christmas

Robin Hood and the Babes in the Wood is to be the subject of the next Maleny Players’ Christmas pantomime in December this year.

It was announced last week at the reunion of the cast who gathered at the Playhouse to watch the video of their performance in the sell-out December 2011 pantomime Aladdin.

Players’ President David Crewe, who will also now start to write the show with composer Paul Coppens, broke the news to the more than 60 Players’ members who had come to the viewing party.

David explained that although the Babes in the Wood story is a traditional subject, it is usually linked with the legend of Robin Hood in order to give plenty of opportunity for different roles and the usual pantomime humour.

Said David: ”We were delighted with the enthusiastic reception it got, and I could see lots of people thinking already about what sort of role they might like to audition for – everything from Robin Hood himself to Little John, the Babes and even their Nurse, Dame Droopydrawers.”

“We hope, as last year, that we will see new people who want to be involved in the show, both on stage and backstage. There’s still a lot of talent out here.”

Auditions will begin in September for the performances in December, and the Players expect that the refurbishment of the Community Centre will be completed by then so that the show can be staged there.
