Maleny Youth Theatre 2019

Advanced Acting Class

This year sees a new addition to Maleny Youth Theatre held at The Maleny Playhouse.

An Advanced Acting Class for young people aged 14 -18 has begun and is off to a flying start

Highly specialized acting training, one of only two classes held here in the Hinterland and Sunshine Coast see 5 young people learning what it is really like to be an actor in the industry these days.

Catherine Steer, our youth theatre facilitator commented,

'There was an obvious need for a class like this as many of the regular youth theatre students have been attending since we started back in 2012. They were asking if they could take their learning further and due to their experience gained from being in the shows and commitment to rehearsals I decided I would offer a class that would be challenging.'

Catherine has a Masters in Performing Arts, gained in 2017 at University of The Sunshine Coast and runs Queensland School of Performing Arts in Nambour.

'The students in Maleny are being taught material you might only learn on a tertiary studies course, this will prepare them well for university and for work and indeed for life. The training instills confidence and a high level of focus. The kind of traits that teachers, managers, nurses, and anyone in the professional field of work needs. So really, it's actually a training for life, not just theatre, and they are loving it!'
